“Godly Voters”

This morning, in church, our pastor gave a sermon titled “Godly Voters”.  This is probably a topic that many minister, preachers, bishops etc. avoid.  This sermon did not focus on the candidates of this election, but rather, how the Bible affects our choice as voters.  I thought it was such an important message that I decided to share it here with you as well.

As Christians, we need to vote in a way that furthers the kingdom of God.
The question we should ask ourselves is: “Will this candidate advance policies that encourage righteousness or unrighteousness?”   As Christians, there are four basic non-negotiable issues that help to answer this question.

  1.  Judicial Appointments
Judges have a far greater influence than a president has.  They have a big influence on national righteousness and, unlike a president, can be in their position for years.
Proverbs 28:4-5  “They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them. (5) Evil men understand not judgement: but they that seek the Lord understand all things.”
Note: Our pastor actually quoted a verse from Isaiah on this point but I wasn’t quick enough to catch it.   On reading more verses on the topic of judgement, I found this one and thought it was interesting to add with this point.
  2. Abortion and Inalienable Rights
Life is a God given right.  Government should protect that right.  When government doesn’t respect the right to life, the reality is that all of our rights is in jeopardy.  A politicians stand on the right to life will often show his leanings on our other rights.
Isaiah 44:24a “Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things.”
Psalm 139:13-15 “For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mothers womb.  I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well.  My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth.”
  3. Homosexuality and the Moral Law
Leviticus 20:13 “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall  be upon them.”
Romans 1: 24-27 “Because they did these things, God left them and let them go their sinful way, wanting only to do evil.  As a result, they became full of sexual sin, using their bodies wrongly with each other.  They traded the truth of God for a lie.  They worshiped and served what had been created instead of the God who created those things, who should be praised forever. Amen.  Because people did those things, God left them and let them do the shameful things they wanted to do.  Women stopped having natural sex and started having sex with other women.  In the same way, men stopped having natural sex and began wanting each other.  Men did shameful things with other men, and in their bodies they received the punishment for those wrongs.” New Century Version
Historically, homosexuality always hurts a nation.  The Bible is clear about other types of sexual sin (adultery, living together outside of marriage) as well, but right now this issue has divided our country and the candidates of this years election.
  4. Public Religious Acknowledgements
Proverbs 3:6 “In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.”
Think about what the candidates support…Prayer at school?  The ten commandments?
A quote by George Washington applies here:
“Whereas, it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor.

Finally, be careful what the candidates say.  More importantly, check their voting record!  What kind of fruits are they putting forth?Matthew 7:15-16 “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.  You shall know them by their fruits.”

Something to remember this year as you go to the pole is that if you are a christian, then you must keep a Godly perspective when voting.  Honor God with your vote.  Many people vote with a personal perspective but it’s not about us.  As Christians, we should be glorifying God in all we do.

So, that was the summary of the message this morning.  I know many people will not agree with many things I’ve written here, but that will always be so.  Thank you for taking the time to read.  Please do your own homework.  I have a wonderful link below which will tell you what each presidential candidate stands (has documentation too).

Day 5: My Political Views

Conservative, conservative, conservative! I have always been conservative in my views.  I’m registered as a Republican and this year I am rooting for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan in the election… To me it’s kindof a no brainer.  The way our country is being run is not working.  We need to get rid of debt, not accumulate, we need to protect our own, not side with other countries when our own border patrol agents get shot.  The list goes on and on and if you want more information on that, there is plenty of good reading out there if you take the time to look for it.  I’m not great at articulating my thoughts on my political views but I feel extremely strong about them.  They are very important to me as they are to many other Americans as well.

As a child, I remember becoming aware of politics and starting to become interested in them.  Today, I definitely credit that to my mom.  Thanks mom, I’m so glad you were engaged in that in your younger years.  She would play talk radio throughout the day.  And most of the time I didn’t have a clue what they were ranting and raving about, I just complained that I wanted to listen to music or whined “please change the station!”.  But it seems she probably replied “I’m listening to this, we’re going to leave it on for a while”.
I remember as a young child watching the debates when it was a presidential election year.  I went to the polls every year with my mom (again, thanks mom!) and would go in with her and push the big green vote button.  We would stay up late and watch the results later that night.  Since I turned 18, I have made it a priority to vote every year.  It is so important.

My plea if your reading is this: Stay informed, Read, Know what’s going on and Act on it!!!!! Go vote this November!!!!  I truly believe our country is at stake if we don’t make some major changes for the better.

Please note: I’m not looking for a debate, just writing a post about my political views.  I know there are a lot of people who have the same views and alot who have other views.  If you don’t like what you read here then..agree to disagree or don’t read. Thanks 🙂
