“Godly Voters”

This morning, in church, our pastor gave a sermon titled “Godly Voters”.  This is probably a topic that many minister, preachers, bishops etc. avoid.  This sermon did not focus on the candidates of this election, but rather, how the Bible affects our choice as voters.  I thought it was such an important message that I decided to share it here with you as well.

As Christians, we need to vote in a way that furthers the kingdom of God.
The question we should ask ourselves is: “Will this candidate advance policies that encourage righteousness or unrighteousness?”   As Christians, there are four basic non-negotiable issues that help to answer this question.

  1.  Judicial Appointments
Judges have a far greater influence than a president has.  They have a big influence on national righteousness and, unlike a president, can be in their position for years.
Proverbs 28:4-5  “They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them. (5) Evil men understand not judgement: but they that seek the Lord understand all things.”
Note: Our pastor actually quoted a verse from Isaiah on this point but I wasn’t quick enough to catch it.   On reading more verses on the topic of judgement, I found this one and thought it was interesting to add with this point.
  2. Abortion and Inalienable Rights
Life is a God given right.  Government should protect that right.  When government doesn’t respect the right to life, the reality is that all of our rights is in jeopardy.  A politicians stand on the right to life will often show his leanings on our other rights.
Isaiah 44:24a “Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things.”
Psalm 139:13-15 “For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mothers womb.  I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well.  My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth.”
  3. Homosexuality and the Moral Law
Leviticus 20:13 “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall  be upon them.”
Romans 1: 24-27 “Because they did these things, God left them and let them go their sinful way, wanting only to do evil.  As a result, they became full of sexual sin, using their bodies wrongly with each other.  They traded the truth of God for a lie.  They worshiped and served what had been created instead of the God who created those things, who should be praised forever. Amen.  Because people did those things, God left them and let them do the shameful things they wanted to do.  Women stopped having natural sex and started having sex with other women.  In the same way, men stopped having natural sex and began wanting each other.  Men did shameful things with other men, and in their bodies they received the punishment for those wrongs.” New Century Version
Historically, homosexuality always hurts a nation.  The Bible is clear about other types of sexual sin (adultery, living together outside of marriage) as well, but right now this issue has divided our country and the candidates of this years election.
  4. Public Religious Acknowledgements
Proverbs 3:6 “In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.”
Think about what the candidates support…Prayer at school?  The ten commandments?
A quote by George Washington applies here:
“Whereas, it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor.

Finally, be careful what the candidates say.  More importantly, check their voting record!  What kind of fruits are they putting forth?Matthew 7:15-16 “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.  You shall know them by their fruits.”

Something to remember this year as you go to the pole is that if you are a christian, then you must keep a Godly perspective when voting.  Honor God with your vote.  Many people vote with a personal perspective but it’s not about us.  As Christians, we should be glorifying God in all we do.

So, that was the summary of the message this morning.  I know many people will not agree with many things I’ve written here, but that will always be so.  Thank you for taking the time to read.  Please do your own homework.  I have a wonderful link below which will tell you what each presidential candidate stands (has documentation too).

Trunk or Treat

Tonight was the first time that my little boy has gone “trick or treating”.  Actually, it was really “trunk and treating” since the event was held at our church and the kids just go around and get candy from everyone.  Halloween has never really been a holiday I’ve been fond of.  Maybe because I don’t like a lot of the scary stuff that goes along with it.  There is a darkness behind certain things that I don’t care to expose myself to.  But this evening was fun because it was about spending time with others, and after getting the candy in the parking lot, we got to go inside and eat, play games and just enjoy the fellowship of others.

What I enjoyed more than anything was seeing how much fun my little boy had.  I got him a blue, plastic pumpkin to put his candy in and he held on to that pumpkin for the entire trunk or treat time outside.  The first two times he got candy, the “givers” had to put it in the pumpkin for him.  By the third time, he got the hang of it and was taking the candy and putting it in the pumpkin.  After a while, his pumpkin started to get heavy and he was dragging it along.  He almost fell over once from the weight but quickly recovered.
As for costume, he was a puppy dog.  I took an old winter hat of my husbands, cut out black, felt pieces and hot glued them on.  It was adorable.  Then I just used eyeliner for whiskers and there you have it! A super easy, cute and cheap costume.

Anyhow, after having his hands painted with a spider and cobweb, munching on snacks, running around the dinner hall, and coloring, it was time to come home.  He had a good night and I will remember this first halloween forever.

Day 12: Worship

Our church is having a community wide choir revival.  This morning we had a 3 hour rehearsal and it was amazing.  The point wasn’t just to practice but to glorify and worship God.  It felt so good to sing my heart out to Jesus.  Especially among a huge group of others singing out as well.  It’s hard to describe but the time spent there today was so dear to my heart.

I can hardly wait until tomorrow evening when we have our service.  I pray that we will be a blessing to many and that God will be at work among us.  Convicting people, changing peoples hearts and moving among us like never before.  I pray that the people in not only our church but our community will be sensitive to the Spirit of God and let Him do amazing things in our lives.  God is a God that can work miracles, even today! And He loves us so much.  It is us who turn our backs on Him and give excuses for living how we want to live.  God’s gift of eternal life is free to anyone who takes it.  John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.   AMEN! So exciting what God offers to us and what He can do in our lives!
